TAKING CARE OF EDUCATION

Taking Care of Education was BUREAU of CHANGE’s inaugural Gestures of Care initiative. From August to October 2012, following mass layoffs of school bus drivers in New Orleans, we invited employed, unemployed and underemployed individuals who support educating students in Louisiana to participate in our project, Taking Care of Education. We transformed our studio into a care center and offered educator-participants free BodyMind Integrative therapy, bubble baths, playtime with kittens, tea and cucumber sandwiches, and a chance to share stories with others who care. A BUREAU of CHANGE initator also visited educators who couldn’t be present at our events and performed a roving care package at their home or workplace. All participants received an offer to have their portraits made by BUREAU of CHANGE artist Colin Roberson to acknowledge their individuality, as well as a BUREAU of CHANGE towel and choice of body care product to take home.
